Short Description

The MRF Plant of Elefsina is the principal member of the recycling scheme of blue bins developed in the municipality of Elefsina. The scheme, which serves 310,405 residents, includes 5,018 blue bins for recyclable materials and 14 vehicles for the collection.

The plant occupies an area of 2,112 m2 and has been in operation since 2009.

The plant includes the following main parts:

  • One Trommel
  • Two lines with conveyor belts for handpicking
  • Two electromagnets
  • Two NIR separators
  • One ballistic separator

In 2010 the plant operated 2,496 hours and recovered 12,982 tons of recyclable materials. About 30% of the recovered recyclables are reclaimed at local recycling companies whereas the rest are exported.
